10
things about the
CMA Awards
telecast that you
won't see at home
1. People in the audience wearing red roses are
seat fillers, hired volunteers who keep the stars' places while they're onstage
or backstage.
2. The red carpet, on which the stars make their
entrances into the Opry House, is 1,600 yards long. 3.
Stars must share dressing rooms backstage, usually three or four to a room.
Some park their tour buses outside and dress there -- but often wind up hanging
out backstage anyway to catch up with old friends.
4. The backstage green room, usually a lounge for
performers to relax, is referred to as "Guitar Alley" during the CMA event,
because the stars' instruments are lined up there to be grabbed
before going onstage.
5. The original CMA trophy was wooden with a marble
base. The change to the current crystal version -- which stands 15 inches tall
and weighs nearly eight pounds -- was made in 1983.
6. Alan Jackson often sets up a grill by his tour
bus, and his crew prepares food for themselves and the crews of other parked
buses.
7. About 2,200 people attend the official post
CMA Awards party each year. In 2003, more than 1,300 bottles of wine were served
at the party.
8. The various sets seen on the show are stacked
through the backstage hallways like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle when not in use.
The stage crew quickly moves the pieces in and out to create different backdrops
for the performances.
9. Last year the Mexican-food chain Baja Fresh
catered backstage -- and host Vince Gill grabbed a burrito during a break and
brought it out onstage, joking about how he was finally
allowed to eat now that he had lost weight in preparation for the show.
10. In 2000, Kenny Rogers set up his own photography
studio in a nearby building to shoot some of his friends, like Faith Hill and
Reba McEntire, for his book This Is My country.

CAROLYN DAWN JOHNSON

FEB 22 2005 London - Borderline
ALBUM REVIEW
This is singer-songwriter Carolyn's UK debut playing at London's Borderline
to promote
her 2nd album release DRESS REHEARSAL released in
UK March 28th
(album produced by Dan Huff.)
The album has a slightly rootsy vibe, from the slightly blue grassy first
single 'SIMPLE LIFE' to the wildly joyous 'HEAD OVER HILLS'' to
the very emotional
message songs such as 'WE TALKED and ' I'LL LET YOU GO'
to the
traditional- edged of DIE OF A BROKEN HEART.' All simply great songs.
Dress Rehearsal, underscores the
tough truth that a dress rehearsal is exactly
what life isn't, that what we have instead is a perpetually brand-new moment
that you have a single chance to make memorable. That is Carolyns
philosophy and the new album illustrates it stunningly.
